one of my favourite things about london, despite it's location, is the lack of stupid posh southern students... it would appear they are ALL in Manchester twatting about on the buses between town and Owens Park. grr. update of muchos fun soon. x

ah yes, i will do my update soon. there is must to babble about but for now i will say I'M GOING TO ITALY!! i'm so excited i might wee. 9 days in italy, at end of May for anniversary fun, involving venice, verona, then beaches and sea... woo! It was a close call between going to italy and going to spain for barcelona/onwards to pretty coastal villages... but thanks to the wonder of ryan air sales, the decision was made easy for me (and my bank balance).

tori amos - under the pink |
] |
this morning, i am mostly appreciating: Rasberry & Boysenberry smoothies Humphrey Bogart being supercool the fact that i have the day off tomorrow to stay in bed drinking pink champagne with mr cuell
this makes for a fairly chipper Thursday. also, seeing miss vic and josh on the bus this morning was a good start to the day.
last night was possibly my favourite valentine's day. casablanca on the big screen, Kir Royales and a wonderful vegetarian mezze platter, wine, and chattering about genetic mutation, chemical warfare and which my favourite shot in casablanca is... ok, so the topics may have strayed from typical romantic night out talk, but it was very interesting :-) so, day off tomorrow and then we're off to see the wizard. no, the castle. yes. beeston castle on saturday, and cuban foodage in chester. maybe a ghostly walk. i do believe all working weeks should be 3 day weeks. this one has been most enjoyable. of course, i'd best not jinx myself because come April i'll find myself with a 2 day a week contract and sod all else.
what else has happened? well, hospital say my tummy is a ok. kinda. nothing serious. so long as i'm good with what i consume, it should be fine... i'm not very good at self-discipline though so it might be tricky.
start the beckett section of my acting course next week. very excited. especially since the performance at the end of the last section (sartre) went really well. *giddy*
there has been lots and lots of training at work. i have also attended a tameside jobs fair (i don't like having to go to hyde), and held a careers drop in at the LGBT centre - it is good to get out and about doing things with work.
spamalot - in nodnol. really funny. *there's a very small percentile who prefer a dancing gentile* i know a lot has been said about it ruining classic python jokes, but it was really good fun, had some great songs, did justice to old classics and made me chuckle for hours afterwards. this has NOTHING to do with my fancying eric idle (WHY? WHY DO I FIND THAT MAN ATTRACTIVE?? AND WHY HAS NOONE REALISED THAT CARL BARAT IS HIS LOVECHILD YET??). nothing at all. there were spamwiches for sale. nuff said. yaaar.
saw 'blasted' at the lowry - this was the night before spamalot and i don't think there could have been a starker contrast between the two productions. blasted was mostly effective, slightly heavy handed at times, but very GRIM. in quite a compelling way. but i must say, my spirits were lifted by the next day's renditions of always look on the bright side...
went to see Scarlet Showdown (ladies Sorrell et Lois) at space bar. those gals are very good indeed. although i will say to the fella who runs space bar - turn down the bloody radiators yo fool!
went to stoke. both the place and the football. i bought emo shoes (from the place, not the football), a skeleton goblet and a pirate themed present for sorrell's car. watched little miss sunshine. - everyone should do this. wonderful wonderful film! met up with sir lynch back in foggy old manchester for an old fashioned night of whiskey and chatter before finding slater to wish him happy birthday (i take a solemn vow to never step foot inside TV21 on a saturday night again. filth. and not in a good way).
i went to a christening, i got glared at for not knowing the hail mary (beyong the 'hail mary, ..um...' bit). saw many family members (dad's side) that i haven't in a long time. it was surprisingly not that awkward. spent a long time wandering round stalybridge in the sunshine with my mum. there is a fairly new statue of jack judge because he wrote and first performed '..long way to tipperary' there. stalybridge can be very interesting and really quite pretty when all the idiots are still in bed on a sunday morning. we have lots of good hills and parks nearby too.
finished the Daytraders shoot!! again :-) for those of you aware of the saga, this was the final day of reshoots, and we got it finished. hopefully, once dan has excercised his editing wonder powers, it will be good to go. and the theme tune is priving to be a hit with thom ;-)
i have been fairly good recently in curbing the boozing. the one occasion i have drunk lots is last saturday, but we were in sheffield (different timezone? different town? do those rules count for drinking?) and at a house party. a rather fun house party. we drank chartreuse, strawberry vodka and some of the vom fass stuff we bought for gwen. we listened to music, talked to strangers, i abused my nose and vomited, then at some point or other, we fell asleep. the next day, thanks to the wonders of pub grub (whoever decided to hold football matches at 11.30 am on a sunday to televise them shoud be shot, but me and thom rule for being the only ones to get up and out in time. yeah), walking in the sun to see the ducks, blackcurrant coridal and fruit, i was not hungover and enjoyed the walking through sheffield immensely. we did get lost, but we won't mention that. so that is my update. oh, tuesday involved buying some great tinkerbell material for a summer dress and saying hello to stan the t rex in the museum.
so that actually is my update. i really must find another way of remembering things rather than rambling in here. but it's better than the work i have to do today, so y'know.
**joannie - if you've managed to get this far - i am not sure when we'll be back from chester this weekend. when are you free to go for a drink/chatter?***

it's such a gorgeous sunny, FREEZING cold morning. i got off the bus early to buy fruit from the fruit stall and walk up to work and wake up. it worked. last night we watched 'keep the aspidistra flying' and then'atomised'. both were very good, but i do wish we'd have watched them the other way round - i might have fallen to sleep on a much lighter note. quick update: there have been 2 drunken nights at tiger lounge. one involving sambucca, the other thankfully not. there has been a lazy sunday film watching where michael, squirrel and james came round to watch the edukators and eat sweets/pizza/more sweets. myself and mr thom went to see the last king of scotland which is one of the best films i have seen in a long time, and i recommend that everyone go and watch it. i would have enjoyed my second acting class but the incompetent metrolink system conspired to prevent that from happening. grr. then there was 'the wind'. i dread to think what would happen to the country should we have some actualy EXTREME weather. a bit of wind and everything comes to a standstill. on a positive weather note, the snow on sunday was wonderful and almost made me forget my hangover (much like the utd v arsenal match. HA HA!). this saturday we are off to london for spamalot. friday we go to the lowry to see 'blasted' which promises to be interesting at the very least.
t'dum. at work. bored. want to be outside, preferably in the park/walking in the lake district. telephone communication with harpurhey will just have to suffice for now.

[11 Jan 2007|03:26pm] |
So, i started my acting course last night. Beckett, pinter, ionesco, sartre, genet, duras... *leaps about giddily* and in my opinion, any course that starts with the tutors promise of a "Beckett-fest" to conclude proceedings is bound to end well. SO VERY EXCITED!!!
this is all. lots of things i should update about Christmas (which involved much lazing and midnight picnicking with my mum and a lovely few days in stoke - including my first experience of attending a match where stoke won. Ace) and New Year (which involved thom, jamie, sorrell, michael, much drinking, 80s party snacks, lots of music and some very dodgy dancing) but i shall keep things short.
Actually, other things: Bent - Alan Cumming was wonderful and the play itself was amazing and upsetting. We were on the second row and the theatre was such a beautiful, intimate space. It did mean we were treated to a close-up view of Mr Cummings nether regions at one point, but some might say that's not a bad thing. Jeremy Hardy was great. I could listen to him whinging about things for a very long time :-)
MANICS GIG! Nicky Wire is still the hottest thing on two legs. one of the best manics gigs ever. tis just a shame they weren't on for long and were preceeded by the biggest load of shite EVER. There was not one entertaining support act. And the magic numbers just scare me.
Um, pre-xmas London. Lots of wandering round Camden and a visit to Highgate cemetary to see all the lefty gravestones (it's such a shame more spaces aren't dedicated to such beautiful memorials to people), on to Highgate for the Beautiful and the Damned which was full of wine, dancing, chattering with Marissa and telling Dickon Edwards it was 'worth the smelly coach journey'. Nice. Stayed at the house of some nice folks we met, drank more, slept, encountered workmen and headed to Oxford Street. Eventually found Hamleys!! Played with many toys, ran round, broke a few things (they weren't child/ali proof, so what are they doing in a toy shop??) and bought Thom a Robo-reptile. More wandering around, cups of tea in the crypt at st. martins in the field with Ellie and then homewards. Wonderful time.
Have watched some good films and then saw Perfume. which was, well, most definitely not good in my opinion.
Other things have happened. Lots of lazing and port with mr thom. Sorrell and Lois' gig which was reet good, celebrating Mr David Bowie's 60th with Sorrell and Michael... things that i can't recall at the moment (i have 13 emails shouting at me to do work)
things to look forward to: Spamalot in London(Thankyou Santa Thom!), various gigs, aforementioned BECKETT-FEST, Underneath the lintel in London (TOBY!), gigs, stuff, stuff, stuff.
ok, so it wasn't short. but this helps my memory when i forget when/what i've done.
so hello, hope everyone's well, t'rah.

this is where i have been. yesterday and today, at meetings. this evening, i will cook for mr cuell and we shall watch enduring love. this is better than meetings in longsight. although i must admit i am secretly fascinated by the world of 14-19 education and training developments and the many layers of bureaucracy that make everything Connexions try to implement stupidly complex. i may well have found a route to pursue if i must remain here after my temporary contract is up in march. i would very much like to train to be a personal adviser, but it would mean a big pay cut whilst i train. hmm. not the most interesting post in the world. i was going to go to an amnesty meeting this evening about the crisis in darfur, so if anyone went/goes(- to the meeting, not darfur. ?) please fill me in on what i missed. tomorrow, jeremy hardy.
lis, if you read this, your blonde be-wigged picture was lovely. hope all is fun in brighton.
humtetum, i don't like getting in and being bored onmy own. i should be in the pub. but that's not always wisest. not long to be broed now though, so should probably get a-cooking.

i slept through my alarm again, whoops. still got in for 9.30 though, God bless flexi-time. it's so hard to get up when it's dark outside :-(
Captain Jack(not Sparrow) was on Buzzcocks last night. he's a funny chap. it's more shambolic since simon amstell(sp?) took over but i quite like that. *cinema last night with mr thom* the prestige is fantastic. it's a quite slow build up and christian bale's accent is quite xmas cockerney eastenders special, but once you get used to it... i thoroughly enjoyed it. david bowie was also excellent, as were michael caine(as always) and andy serkis(who thom insisted on calling ian brady all evening). the lady who played christian bale's wife, rebecca hall, was wonderful, and she hasn't been in very many films at all. she is in starter for ten which i also want to see (bale, jackman, mcavoy....luckiest actress ever?).. but yes, what this is boiling down to is i still don't see what all the fuss is surrounding scarlett johansson. she was ok. her accent was a bit crap, she pouted a bit too much. she wasn't great. she was just ok. nowhere near as good as the woman who played sarah (i'm not sure exactly why i loved her so much but it's probably my favourite female performance for a long time)...
so yes it was good, but there are actresses far more deserving of the roles that scarlett johansson is begged to do. edit:i will concede that in ghost world and lost in translation, she is GREAT, but that's what makes this all the more diappointing...
anyhoo. this morning i have been listening to songs from the rushmore soundtrack(thanks colin!) and wondering why the england cricketers haven't just packed up and come home yet.
i have also started drinking too much coffee at work again(i gave it up in favour of fruit tea, but now i've run out of tea bags). bugger. i do have spaghetti hoops for lunch though!
i'm very excitable today, i have many things to look forward to. all the films at le cinema, jeremy hardy, ALAN CUMMING!, postgrad open day(not quite as high on the excitement scale but still), manics gig...all in the next two weeks, and then for xmas we're off to london for hamleys and The Beautiful and The Damned. Just don't say the word 'money' to me and it'll all be ok...
at some point there will hopefully be ice skating with miss conway, gallons of mulled wine, more mulled wine... and i don't remeber what follows the mulled wine... more mulled wine?
i must reduce the length of these posts and use capital letters.
i am going to go and add things to my amazon rental list and find things to do that look like work.
t'rah. x

i love torchwood. i really do. i would like it on dvd right now. the episode shown on bbc2 last night was excellent - mix of texas chainsaw, hills have eyes, the archers with nods towards the lost boys, village of the damned and a whole heap of sexual tension. fantastic. i am so glad they chose to go more down the ensemble cast route.
so, mark thomas was great. such a funny and interesting bloke - which is always handy in his line of work. i won't go on, but for those of you who didn't go to see him, well, you should've.
i spent a day in dukinfield last week learning about careers in construction and utilised this for a presentation on the potential development of construction companies as Chamber(of Commerce)Members on Monday... this was highly enjoyable compared to a normal days work. there are changes afoot in the company which may mean i get to do some more of that alongside my normal job, which will at least make things more interesting round here.
cinema - went to see borat which was hilarious. i was shocked that he didn't get shot or beaten up when doing it. and although there has been some criticism of the way kazakhstan is portayed, it is clear after the first 5 minutes that it's only the americans who have something to worry about. and besides, it's a funny film. FUNNY. some people...
on friday we had a very drunken but fun manics night(see my myspace for pictures from sarah - stephen have you got some?). it's always good to drunkenly chatter with the kids. only 2 weeks til the gig!
saturday was ace - went into town with Monsieur Cuell for a wander and then to see saw 3. grimGRIMGRIM the last third was fairly interesting and not too bad, but i couldn't stomach a lot of it(yes, this may have had something to do with the lingering hangover, but i will say it's because i'm a sensitive soul..). Went to The Greenhouse vegetarian restaurant in rusholme, which is lovely. we ate sweet potato goulash, spinach and feta filo things, mushrooms, hummous, other things and drank mmmmm wine. i would like to go there many a time more because i was too full to tackle the dessert menu...
sunday i met my mum for bra shopping and xmas markets, a day which involved tapas, goulash, bras, beret(singular), walking round lots and avoiding shops selling dvds. and then me, thom and jamie watched the west wing(more team josh and toby!) and planet earth.
a near perfect weekend.
um this week, trying to avoid my cold(this battle has been ongoing for about a month now). went to grand central with james on monday and spoke with a basque fella, a portugese lady and a man from cumbria(not the makings of a joke), which was fun. finished the daytraders shoot in stoke. i arrived back at my house at just past 4am wednesday morning (still made it to work though, go me!) after we'd finished filming at around 2.30. blimey. it has been muchos fun though :-)
yesterday, briefly grand central'd avec james but was so very sleepy i returned home to watch torchwood (see, the post has come full circle) and desperate housewives and sleepsleepsleep.
today is shaping up to be ok and should get even better. i had a brief lie-in, bought lots of fruit from the 'mixed froots' van on the way to work, i am yet to do any actual work, i have a hot chocolate to drink later and this evening i am meeting thom for a date to le cinema to see the prestige. it will be amazing. bale, jackman, nolan, with michael caine, david bowie and andy serkis?? yes yes yes. never mind that johansson women(what happened to the lovely lass we saw in ghost world, eh?). and then hopefully off to stoke to stay at thom's mum and dad's tomorrow before returning home for a weekend of more cinema, tidying and rearranging the bedroom, west wing and possibly the ruffian at tiger lounge.
phew. so this is why i stopped posting regularly...
oi oi miss crossland, enjoy the gigs! i shall see you soon i hope. oh by the way tell matt thanks so much for passing my cv on to ticketmaster. decided not to take it the end cause the woman kept messing me about with when she said she would ring to speak to me and the training would be 3 weeks 5-9, which would mean be being out of the house 7am-10pm 5 days a week for 3 weeks, which i don't know if i could hack at the moment. tis a shame, the job itself would've been ideal. hope you are both well, and the kitties. xxx

haha i'm not emo.
first of all, all hail the return of planet earth!
so, i've decided i should write in here more often. mainly so i don't forget when i have done things. i am at work at the moment (actually doing some work. this is NOT usual, so i deserve presents), so a massive update is not possible, so i will give myself a list of things i must remember. so that i remember to remind myself... yes.
oslo - lego, jaegermeister, blues bar, silly hotel tv (all i wanted was foreign porn damn you!), fjords, palace, MARA-bloody-DONNA! many more things. i will have photos too.
birthdays - house party, football, monkeys, stoke (those three aren't all one and the same despite what you may think), theatre (was this then? i don't know).
new yoik dolls(amazing), gogol bordello twice(i want a mr hutz of my very own! they are so fucking good.), broken family band(disappointing, more down to the smelly bierkeller than them) possibly some other music...
filming in stoke. much fun, very tired. almost finished. excellent.
being too poorly for work and going to blackpool :-) - renegade donkeys, ripley's believe it or not, air hockey, bowling, donuts, seaside, comedy souvenirs.
spending more time than is healthy in grand central poisoning james with too much booze/too many peanuts.
seeing newcastle jane. poisoning all present with too much booze and too many peanuts.
there have been nights out here and there. mainly revolving around tiger lounge/grand central/scholar/tiger lounge, um, grand central...lurking in the dark and porn toilet of socio rehab with mr cuell. much west wing has been watched, hamsters are still alive, other things...yes, other things i'm sure.
seeing the kids. vic and beck's birthday. neil and raine coming up. seeing mr colin more.
seeing much more of lady sorrell which has been wondrous.
oh and i created a bloody marvellous stew/curry thing. it rivals my puff pastry vegetable thing for title of best ali kitchen creation (since the days of Devon custard and chocolate mush as a youngster...).
well, my work here is done. at least i won't forget when things have happened which is what i usually do - if anyone can shed light on the nights out (ie. when where why ) please do comment. tonight, we are off to see the wizard. well, mark thomas, but it will be ACE. and then jeremy hardy at the end of the month and then the MAAAAANNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCSSSS! screw the magic numbers and cockfaces frost/fretwell/powers, you will not ruin our fun. elbow and countless others have tried it before, but no, you will not succeed. hell hath no fury like a manics fan scorned. and then christmas. i look forward to lots of nights in with silly films, red wine, and hearty food creations and days out walking in leaves and cold in the park and, more likely, between the pub and home. and watching lots of films. did i mention that?
see, now i've stopped doing work it's very hard to go back to doing it. but i must. because i have to go to dukinfield tomorrow for a work thing and these spreadsheets cannot wait til thursday. silly work.
right, c'mon herod. go go go! x (does anyone know if the megabus goes to madagascar? or how long it would take to swim there? cheers...)

[ Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<that [...] though,>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.] the New York Dolls. They were amazing. <that trouser bulge was slightly terrifying though, Mr Johansen, as Thom pointed out>
It was one of the best gigs i've ever been too. It's always great to see a band who seem to be enjoying the gig as much as you are.
They win. Towers of London however, do not win.
Also, there were very small children there - 12y/o-ish if not younger - having fun and wandering round and it reminded me how much venue age restrictions are ridiculous.
This is all. There is so much more to babble about, but so little to actually say, so I'm going to go back to doing what i was pretending to be doing work-wise.
I shall see some of you soon i'm sure.
